Passport checks in place at the land frontier. Border queue wait times of 30–90 minutes at peak periods.
15 July 2026 — today
Land border opens — fence removed.
Routine passport checks at the land crossing end. Walk or drive between Gibraltar and Spain freely. Border controls move to the airport and seaport.
Late 2026 onwards
New routes expected at Gibraltar Airport.
The treaty framework enables direct flights between Gibraltar and EU destinations for the first time. Airlines are already reviewing new route opportunities.

Yes — a valid passport is required to enter Gibraltar. This does not change on 15 July. Your passport must be less than 10 years old on the date of travel, and have at least 3 months’ validity remaining.
No. Sunborn Gibraltar is located in Ocean Village Marina, inside Gibraltar. Guests flying into Gibraltar Airport are already in Gibraltar — no land border crossing is required. The airport is approximately 5 minutes from the hotel by taxi.
Yes — and this is one of the most exciting things about staying at Sunborn from 15 July onwards. The removal of the land border queue means you can walk or drive into La Línea in minutes, reach Sotogrande in 20 minutes, and Marbella in under 45.
